The Optimal Movement clinic

About

A Shrewsbury team that treats the person, not the queue

OPTIMAL MOVEMENT LTD brings sports therapy, physiotherapy, osteopathy and coaching together at Emstrey House South.

Why the clinic exists

People arrive because something hurts, because a race is close, or because daily movement has become smaller than they want. The shared idea is individual care: find the most effective route for that musculoskeletal picture, then stay with the plan.

The registered office is Emstrey House South, Shrewsbury Business Park, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England, SY2 6LG. Sessions are by appointment. Call +1 602-613-8137 or email [email protected].

Joe Brocklehurst

Joe Brocklehurst

Sports therapist

Joe has worked in sports therapy since 2008, after a BSc in Sports Therapy at the University of Birmingham. Soft tissue, manipulation, acupuncture and taping are daily tools, updated as the research moves. He reads movement patterns and builds a plan for the person in front of him.

Also: VTCT Level 3 Sports Massage, Warwick College; instrumental soft-tissue massage. Interests include sports injuries, taping, acupuncture, spinal manipulation and endurance coaching.

Gemma Botley

Gemma Botley

Sports therapist

Gemma graduated from Edge Hill University in 2013 with a BSc (Hons) in Sports Therapy, with placements in the university clinic, a dance clinic, Liverpool and Sefton Harriers, and St Helens Rugby. Since then she has worked in private practice, school injury screening and semi-professional football, with a keen eye for biomechanics. Mountain biking and running keep her own training honest.

Oli Blake

Oli Blake

Sports therapist

Oli has been in sport since 2010. A first-class BSc in Sport and Exercise Science from Loughborough led quickly into massage work with international and Olympic athletes. An athletics scholarship at the University of Alabama brought a master’s, then personal training and exercise-referral qualifications. He specialises in taking people past the injury, using physiology, anatomy and biomechanics. He is also qualified in gym instruction, nutrition and sports psychology.

Lucy Bousfield

Lucy Bousfield

Physiotherapist

Lucy qualified from Coventry University in 2016 and rotated through NHS elderly care, respiratory medicine, trauma, orthopaedics and musculoskeletal outpatients. She still works part-time in a consultant-led sports and exercise medicine service, from dancers to footballers, cyclists and triathletes. Lower-limb injury is a focus, including ACL protocols and ankle and Achilles clinics, with further strength and conditioning study. She runs, rides and hikes.

Steve Hadlum-Emburey

Steve Hadlum-Emburey

Osteopath

Steve holds a master’s in osteopathy and a diploma in naturopathy from the British College of Osteopathic Medicine (2010) and is registered with the General Osteopathic Council. His later study takes in functional neurology, daily rhythm, food, training load, sleep and stress. PDTR-informed work is one of the tools he uses when people want to feel stronger and move with less pain.

Paola Russell

Paola Russell

Physiotherapist

Paola completed her physiotherapy degree in Colombia and began in private hospitals in Bogotá with sports, orthopaedic and musculoskeletal rehab. In the UK since 2006 she has worked in the NHS and private practice, including well-known London hospitals. She favours exercise therapy, manual techniques, Pilates-based rehab, acupuncture and functional biomechanics, especially shoulder, neck, thoracic and lumbar problems, plus headache and dizziness with a musculoskeletal driver. Post-operative and neurological rehabilitation are also part of her background. She runs, trains outdoors and cycles.
