Yoga practice in a calm studio setting

Classes

Yoga and Pilates taught with an injury-literate eye

Useful if you want fewer niggles, or simply a clearer sense of how to move well. Athletes use the same classes to stay longer in their sport.

Standing yoga balance

Yoga

A regular practice can improve focus, breathing, flexibility and strength beside any sport. You can also come with no sport at all. Repetitive training loads the same tissues; yoga rebalances alignment and gives those areas a different job.

  • Mobility, balance and agility
  • Strength and stamina, with kinder recovery
  • Less day-to-day ache through better alignment
  • Diaphragm breathing, lung efficiency and digestion
  • A calmer nervous system: lower sense of stress, and often an easier heart rate and blood pressure

Remedial yoga

A pause in a busy day. These sessions are for recovery from life, training and injury, so familiar aches are not shrugged off as age.

Yin yoga

Quiet, longer holds that suit a wide range of fitness. People use it for flexibility, stress and a general sense of being less braced.

Pilates

Instructors here also work with injury treatment and biomechanical assessment. Sessions stretch what has tightened and wake muscles that went quiet, including the posture that slowly becomes “chair shaped”.

Supine Pilates position

Restorative

For stiff desk weeks and anyone who wants to become active again without jumping into hard intervals. Strength and suppleness can support a steadier weight and a clearer head.

Rehabilitation

After an injury, or when the same niggle keeps returning. Classes rebuild the basics so you have more say over what the body will do.

Sports Pilates

Motor patterns for your sport. Runners often need hip-flexor attention; racket sports may load the rotator cuff. Core control can add power when a personal best feels stuck.

How classes are grouped

Continuing

45 minutes, repeating Wednesday or Thursday at 7.00pm for six weeks (£60). For people with some Pilates already, guided by Mirren, a biomechanics specialist. You leave with exercises for home.

Beginners

45 minutes, Wednesday at 6.00pm for six weeks (£60). For little or no previous Pilates. Core, flexibility, balance and coordination come first. Places are limited.

One to one

New to Pilates, returning from injury, or chasing sports performance. Mirren tailors the follow-ups. The studio is at Emstrey House South.
